Stash Report August 28, 2011

There was a lot of cutting taking place in my sewing room, but I’m not reporting it yet since it’s the logs for my leader/ender log cabin.  There’s enough light logs for 180 blocks (I think that’s 12 blocks too many) and I think I’ve got logs for 65 dark blocks cut – including the 40 blocks I did the other day.

As far as reportable fabric goes, there are those 34 4-patches which I’m probably going to remake, but I haven’t been near a fabric store to see if I can find the right shade of creamy white.  When I put that project on hold, I pulled the Christmas Row Quilt back out and started working on the borders – one border done, so one border counted.

So the numbers:

Fabric Added Last Week: 0 yards
Fabric Added to Date: 99.634 yards

Fabric Used Last Week: 1.368 yards
Fabric Used to Date: 136.906 yards

Net Used for 2011: 37.272 yards

I dug into my stash this week and found fabric to use for the backing and binding on True Friends.  Friday night I pieced the back so it was ready to quilt Saturday morning.  I’ll finish stitching the binding down later this afternoon and I’ll show it tomorrow for Design Wall Monday.  I also made a decision on the spacer border for the Christmas Row Quilt, so cut and have that attached waiting for the rest of the borders.

Fabric Added to Date: 99.634 yards

Fabric Used Last Week: 3.533 yards
Fabric Used to Date: 135.538 yards

Week before last I won a FQ for Bingo and it arrived this week.  A deep peach.  Other than that I’ve stayed out of the quilt shops – which has given me plenty of time to work on my Christmas Row quilt.  I have 4 of the five rows completed and just need to sash three more blocks of the 5th row.  This quilt top just might get completed this month. Oh, I also get to count the backing and binding of the baby quilt I finished early in the week.

Fabric Added Last Week: .25 yards
Fabric Added to Date: 99.634 yards

Fabric Used Last Week: 4.4 yards
Fabric Used to Date: 132.005 yards

Net Used for 2011: 32.371 yards

Last week I focused on my UFOs so no new fabric was purchased.  Saturday night I started quilting another baby quilt, so I’m counting the backing and binding (which I’ve already made).

Fabric Used Last Week: 1.41 yards
Fabric Used to Date: 127.605 yards

This week the report is mixed.

One of the quilts I signed up to finish as part of  both Judy’s UFO Challenge and Heritage Fine Fabric’s UFQ program is my QIAD Christmas Row Quilt.  I participated in a block swap in November 2008 and my goal is to have the top done by the end of the year.  I think it was June’s UFO.

Anyway, I’ve finally come up with quilt top design which handles the variances in the block sizes (they were all supposed to finish at 12″).

The red fabric I’ve picked is called Holiday Luminosity.  I’m not sure what the green fabric is call and believe it or not, the white fabric is included in the picture.

So, that’s what came in. Who knows when I’ll start to use it.  It’s got to be washed first.

But fabric used.  I get to count the backing & binding for Fireworks Over John Deere and the backing for the Crossword Puzzle quilt.  I finally got the second seam done.  I’m going to bind and label the baby quilt and the mystery quilt, then make a decision about the quilting on the Crossword Puzzle quilt.

Fabric Added Last Week: 9.365 yards
Fabric Added to Date: 99.384 yards

Fabric Used Last Week: 10.333 yards
Fabric Used to Date: 126.195 yards

Net Used for 2011: 26.811 yards

All is good as I’ve used more than I bought and I hope to use what I bought before the end of the year.  Although Judy is frantically packing and not sewing, check out the link at Patchwork Times to see how others are doing with their stash.

This week I spent time cleaning up the sewing room/office.  And I got two new ceiling fans/lights installed.  Love the extra light and in this heat the extra fan is a bonus.

So with the cleaning, there’s very little sewing going on.  I did fix the crossword puzzle quilt and press the backing for it.  Making the backing is on the schedule for this week.  I also sandwiched the mystery quilt, so I get to count the backing for that.

Fabric Added Last Week: 0 yards
Fabric Added to Date: 90.019 yards

Fabric Used Last Week: .847 yards
Fabric Used to Date: 115.862 yards

Net Used for 2011: 25.843 yards

It’s been nearly a month since I sat in front of my sewing machine to piece, but Saturday that’s exactly what I did.  I spent the day writing and testing the first draft of a mystery quilt pattern.  Looks like I’ll be sending it off to the 2nd round testers next week.

The fabric came from my stash (yea!) and I have backing fabric as well.  No new fabric was added to the stash.

Fabric Added Last Week: 0 yards
Fabric Added to Date: 90.019 yards

Fabric Used Last Week: 1.19 yards
Fabric Used to Date: 111.015 yards

Net Used for 2011: 24.996 yards

After my 3 month quilting marathon I figured I wouldn’t go anywhere near my sewing machine for a while. I was right, but not for the reasons I thought.  I’m still digging the room out.  I’ve found the top of the ironing board and nearly have the extra table and cutting board cleared off, but it’s still impossible to walk through here.

Bottom line, no fabric in or out.

Fabric Added Last Week: 0 yards
Fabric Added to Date: 90.019 yards

Fabric Used Last Week: 0 yards
Fabric Used to Date: 113.825 yards

Net Used for 2011: 23.806 yards

Looks like Judy didn’t get in her sewing room either.  I guess we’ll all have to check out the links to see who did get some sewing done.

No fabric used in the past two weeks and only 1 quilt shop visited on our 12 day road trip.  I saw a couple, but either there wasn’t enough time to stop or it was after hours.   Since I had my niece and nephew with me the fabric I did buy is for them.

I’ll be making my niece  the Bellance bag.  She picked out a new Robert Kaufman black and white print for the bag, a bright pink for the accent and another Kaufman black and white for the handles.  I didn’t want to have to think, so I got a yard of each.

My nephew, not wanting to be left out, picked a FQ for me to use to make a quilt for his frog. That’s a Build-a-Bear frog, not a live frog.  It’s a Christmas print with peppermints on it.

When I checked out my niece  said “Wow! That’s more money than the purse Momma and Daddy wouldn’t buy me.”  I told her it would cost more before it was done, but it would be made with love, last and be washable.  I also told her she might not getit until Christmas.  Good kid that she is said that was OK.

So, here’s the report.

Fabric Added Last 2 Weeks: 3.25 yards
Fabric Used Last 2 Weeks: 0 yards

My totals look weird and I don’t have access to my spreadsheets, so I’ll  update the  year-to-date totals next week.

Meanwhile, checkout the links over at Patchwork Times to see how others are doing.

Found the issue with my totals.  I didn’t update the year-to-date total on the 17th.    The corrected year to date totals are:

Fabric added to date:  90.019
Fabric used to date: 113.825
Net fabric used: 23.806
